Aussie Ark is NSW’s largest independently owned and operated conservation organisation. Nestled high above the stunningly beautiful – heritage-listed Barrington Tops of NSW, the landscape provides a sanctuary for many threatened Australian Native mammal species, such as the Tasmanian Devil, Eastern Quoll and Long–Nosed Potoroo. This safe location offers the ideal environment for the eventual reintroduction into the wild for many animals. To maintain the integrity of ecosystems in the area, Aussie Ark also works on protecting native fauna found within their existing sanctuaries, including 50 species of mammals, 278 species of birds, 42 species of reptiles and 18 types of frogs.

Aussie Ark is committed to practical, outcome-based conservation efforts using proven methods based on science specifically for Australian wildlife. Core activities such as building insurance populations, fire management, fox and feral cat exclusion, weed eradication, rewilding and wildlife translocations are but some of the many tasks taken out to ensure the longevity of all species. With fantastic projects currently operating, such as a state-of-the-art turtle breeding facility located on the Australian Reptile Park’s site, as well as their goal to plant 100,000 trees through the Mongo Valley and Barrington Sanctuary sites and many other worthwhile causes, they are working hard to safeguard the future of endangered Australian fauna. The ManKind Project helps men to connect with their emotions, find their purpose and act in alignment with ManKind Project values of Integrity, Accountability, Congruence, Responsibility, and Respect.

The ManKind Project wants to effect change on society’s definition of masculinity. We seek change from a view where it is no longer about a man’s ability to ‘man up’ and suppress his true emotions. It’s about becoming self-aware, showing vulnerability, and being curious about self-development, accepting personal responsibility, respecting others, nurturing relationships and recognising that all of these things are indeed traits of good and courageous men in touch with what healthy masculinity really is!

The tide is changing.

The ManKind Project is a group of men that equips men with new skills and learning experiences required to let go of what no longer serves them. It provides them with new ways of thinking and tools to help them face adversity. It is a rite of passage that encourages emotional growth to achieve life-changing breakthroughs and lead a more fulfilled life, creating authentic connections with all those they have the privilege of coming into contact with. Breaking down the stigma around depression, loneliness, fear and shame, the MKP is helping men become better versions of themselves by creating positive changes in communities across Australia and the world.

As the tides change, so must the narrative.

Today, the definition of masculinity is changing; it is no longer about man’s ability to ‘man up’ or keeping a ‘stiff upper lip’, it’s about showing vulnerability, becoming self-aware, and being curious about self-development, accepting personal responsibility, respecting others and nurturing relationships and recognising that all of these things are indeed traits of courageous and strong men in touch with what Manhood really is!

In 1984, in Wisconsin USA, Rich Tosi, Bill Kauth and Ron Hering, recognised a societal disconnect, particularly among males in their community. They held a men’s group weekend and called it “Wild Man”, which has now evolved over time to be now known as “The New Warrior Training Adventure” (NWTA).

During these early weekends, men supported men to reconnect themselves with their lost deep masculine identity, and now over the years, the ManKind Project has now formed itself as arguably one of the most successful men’s groups in the world.

Fast forward to the year 2000 here in Australia.

The ManKind Project of Australia was established here by Larry Dawson, Allan Shortall, and Phillip Krieg, with the first NWTA held on Tamborine Mountain Queensland. Since then, MKP Australia has grown from strength to strength, instilling in Australian men its core values of:

Accountability
Authenticity
Compassion
Generosity
Integrity
Leadership
Multicultural Awareness and Respect.

MKP International now has MKP Men’s groups/organisations on 8 continents worldwide. Here in Australia, MKP now has communities and training centres in all states of Australia and continues to grow and support men and families within those communities.

As the tides change, so must the narrative.

Weekends called the New Warrior Training Adventure (NWTA):

A journey that encourages men to reconsider how they present themselves in the world, how they can improve their relationship with themselves, with their partner, with their families, and, ultimately, how they can improve all of their personal and professional relationships at work. The NWTA is a weekend that challenges men’s beliefs and provides better ways to show up as a man in today’s challenged societies. It helps many men become more aware of what it takes to celebrate and honour the best of what men have to offer humanity and the planet.

MKP Men's Circles / I-Groups (Integration Groups):

To ensure there is continuity and support for all men, MKP Men’s Circles are located throughout Australia and run weekly. They provide a safe space for all men to express themselves and share what they consider to be the good, the bad, and the ugly aspects of their daily lives. Men helping men by sitting in circle and providing a space for me to be heard. These men’s circles serve as a constant link between men as they live their daily lives, they encourage men to be open to new ways of being, and they create friendships and connections not seen in a lot of today’s communities.

Ongoing Support and Trainings:

MKP Australia provides ongoing personal advancement for all initiate men via our Leadership and Diversity trainings. Men willing to become vulnerable, caring, empathetic and accountable as they step into their personal leadership in their lives and within MKP itself. These Next-Level Training courses are designed for initiated men to advance their personal skill base and eventually help their fellow men who are where they once were. It is a gift to be able to pass on and an even greater gift to serve one’s, fellow man.

Coorparoo RSL and Community Club

The more the members and visitors purchase in the Coorparoo RSL and Community Club, the more the club provides to take care of “those in need”.

Put simply – it’s a mutually beneficial relationship, that ensures those in the community who need help and support, receive it.

The vision of the Coorparoo RSL and Community Club is to create a hub (a key community pillar of the future) where people enjoy the offer and community involvement.

Coorparoo RSL was formed in 1935 and has been at its current home in Coorparoo since the early 1960s. Regular meetings are held monthly at the Club HQ in Holdsworth Street, Coorparoo, along with many other annual social activities.

Of course, the most memorable event is “Anzac Day”, whereupon the club ensures that this day is remembered with the gravitas and honour it rightly deserves. This day sees the community congregate and rally around surviving veterans, to commemorate their fallen comrades and remember their sacrifice. It’s an emotional and humbling experience for all involved.

Onsite services at the club include – a restaurant, bar, gaming, wagering, and multiple function options for various meetings and events.

The club also organises regular fun events for all (members and visitors) to enjoy – e.g., Sunday Roasts, Game nights and various prize drawers (to name a few). This brings the community together and enables the Coorparoo RSL and Community Club to raise much-needed funds, i.e., to assist with the delivery of community and legacy activities.

Tallebudgera Surf Life Saving Club

The ever-changing tides bring new offerings to beachgoers, crab hunters, paddle boarders, nippers, athletes, fishermen, and locals.

Away from the main tourist attractions, this hidden gem oversees both the calmer waters of Tallebudgera Creek and the surf swell, making it a welcome playground and vibrant hub for the local community and visitors from dawn to dusk year-round.

About Talle

Tallebudgera Surf Life Saving Club was founded in 1946 by a group of National Fitness camp members who saw the need to patrol the beach and creek entrance, making Talle SLSC an essential part of community safety.

Since its inception, the Surf Club has grown from strength to strength, with 900 Surf Club members (young and old), participating in patrol activities, events, and surf carnivals.

Volunteer Talle “Life Savers” patrol the Tallebudgera waters from mid-September to the end of April, with an outpost recently added to monitor the creek mouth outside these months. Tallebudgera Creek can be dangerous, particularly on an outgoing tide, with its strength often underestimated and swimmers frequently requiring assistance.

Some Stats

Between September 2021 and May 2022, 61,612* people enjoyed visiting Talle beach on weekends, of which 51 required first aid treatment. Of those 19 were attended to by paramedics*.
Five rescues were successfully performed, with a further 356 preventative actions to ensure the public (locals and tourists) were safe. To patrol the beach to a high standard for that period requires 226 Surf Lifesavers (all volunteers).

Talle SLSC, like many other Surf Life Saving Clubs, exemplifies what a community is all about. A gathering place for locals to connect and network with people from all walks of life, a place to support one another, provide opportunities, and importantly have fun.

Aside from outdoor activities, the Club has a varied and busy social calendar via their 23,000 strong Supporters Club, e.g., encouraging locals to socialise and enjoy roast nights, musical bingo, live entertainment, Sunday breakfast and more.

All this activity requires fundraising for much-needed rescue equipment, maintenance, lifesaving training, and beach patrols. The Club relies on various income streams to raise these funds – be it sponsorship, grants, Government funding and the Supporters Club, which delivers the majority of their funds. However, more funds are always needed.

SEABIN PROJECT

Does "Plastic" Fish' n' Chips sound appealing to you?

There is still hope.

Fortunately, the Seabin Project makes a significant difference in cleaning our oceans.

They have already removed over 3 million kilogrammes of marine litter from our oceans and captured approximately 58.4 million pieces of plastic by strategically placing 1,100 Seabins in controlled environments such as marinas, yacht clubs, and ports around the world. Globally, Seabins collect an average of 2,800kg of marine litter per day.

The Seabin Project began in 2013 as a collaboration between Andrew Turton and Pete Ceglinski.

With a passion for all things ocean-related, including surfing, a background in design and a vision to clean up our deep blue oceans, the concept of a Seabin was born.

Over 600,000 litres of water are passed through its internal catch bag filter daily while sitting at the water’s surface using a 12v submersible pump.

On average, Seabins collect 3.9 kg of marine litter per day. Microplastics and foam (polystyrene) are the most prevalent types of marine pollution, accounting for 29% and 32% of all marine debris.

Seabins also help improve the water quality in their local marine environment by trapping some oils and liquid pollutants in an absorbent oil pad at the bottom of each unit’s catch bag.

Environmental Technicians at Seabin are just as important as the technology. They not only manage the units’ frequent emptying, maintenance, and data collection, but they also involve and educate the local community about the work they do and the effects of plastics in the ocean. With awareness comes responsibility and the ability to make behavioural changes. All these factors combine to help stem the flow of land-based pollution entering our oceans.

The Pilot Program for Seabin in Sydney City

Seabin’s mission is to provide practical and measurable solutions to reduce plastic pollution in our oceans. Seabin launched the Sydney City Pilot in July 2020 as part of their ambitious 100 Cities Smarter Cities for Cleaner Oceans programme. After five years of technical research and development and three years of global data and monitoring, Seabin created this high-impact, scalable model that is easily implemented globally. This results-driven initiative is now well underway, with a focus on data monitoring, reducing litter, prevention, and the big goal of cleaning up 100 cities worldwide.

During 2021, the Smarter Cities Programme removed over 16.5 tonnes of marine litter from only 16 Seabins in Sydney locations such as Manly Wharf, Rose Bay, and Pyrmont. The 30+ Seabin volunteers were critical in recording the data, which helped enormously. “We now have tangible data showing the desperate need to clean up our harbour waterways” explained Scott, Marine Manager. The Seabin marine litter report was released in August 2021. The data gathered can be used to influence decision-makers and policymakers and reduce the prevalence of land-based litter upstream.

In Sydney alone, Seabin collected 1,537 kilos of marine litter in September 2020. Put another way; it is the equivalent of 33 football fields covered in plastic grocery bags. The total amount collected during the one-year pilot scheme in Sydney was the equivalent of 351 football fields!

Mission statement: To live in a world without the need for Seabins

Overconsumption, production methods, and waste management have destroyed our healthy ecosystems and biodiversity.

Seabin Project sets sustainability, product design, social responsibility, and innovation standards. With numerous international awards under their belt, Seabin is currently working on reintroducing waste material into the economy by giving ocean plastics a new purpose and encouraging companies to reconsider the materials used in producing their goods.
Deep blue oceans cover 70% of the planet, containing known and unknown wildlife. Mankind has mapped only 20% of the ocean floor. A lot is still unknown.

Our current reality is that an estimated nine million metric tonnes of durable, cheap plastic with a lifespan of up to 400 years is dumped into our oceans every year, threatening marine life, accelerating climate change, and threatening all ecosystems on the planet.

The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) report for 2021 has a clear message: we no longer have the luxury of time to repair the damage we have caused. Large corporations and businesses, as well as the general public, must take immediate action.

We all owe it to our planet and future generations to do better, live more mindfully, and preserve and ensure our remaining ecosystems’ survival. Without our valuable natural resources, such as clean air and water, life on Earth will gradually cease to exist. It’s as simple as that.

Not only do we rely on our oceans for food, recreation, and the global stabilisation of weather patterns, but they also absorb 50 times more carbon dioxide than our atmosphere and produce more than half of our oxygen. Our Rewards4Earth Ocean Rejuvenation Mandate is dedicated to assisting The Seabin Project in fulfilling its mission statement of cleaning up our oceans.

Seabin continues to inspire. Their registered charity, a non-for-profit foundation, offers learning programmes for schools and corporations to educate, inspire, and influence people through solution-based experiences. The Seabin Foundation provides educational programmes in communities, inviting residents to take responsibility for areas of water affected by pollution. In collaboration with their pilot partners, the Seabin Project Team collects critical data for to help understand marine litter pollution issues and help them review the impact of Seabins in each area. This information aids in the monitoring of waterway health and enables them to predict forecasted ocean volumes based on weather and tidal patterns.

This data is critical for developing and incorporating smarter technology to improve and further enhance the Seabin’s ability to collect even smaller microplastic particles and absorb more petroleum-based surface oils and detergents commonly found in marinas worldwide.

The International Elephant Project

Elephants are the last of a lineage dating back 60 million years, but their populations have been decimated in one generation.

Sadly, there are about 30,000–50,000 of Asian Elephants left in the wild. With fewer than 1,500 left, both Sumatran and Borneo elephants are in danger of going extinct. Elephants travel long distances, and with the extraordinary rate of rainforests being lost caused by drought, fires, illegal logging and expanding human populations, their future is uncertain.

Elephants migrate over enormous distances in search of food and water. Their migration is crucial in maintaining balance. While consuming a variety of vegetation, they spread seeds in their excrement that encourages the new growth of plants.

In addition to the endangerment of their food sources, herds, and migration routes, the destruction of their habitat to make way for unsustainable agriculture, plantations, mining, human settlements, and infrastructure also jeopardises the future of this species by causing conflict between humans and elephants at the same time.

Sadly 70% of the time, elephants venture into unprotected areas, often found travelling through human-dominated regions resulting in the damage of crops, property and even human injury and death. Such instances result in retribution, frequently using poison, endangering their species even more.

Elephant populations are also threatened by snares set up in the forested areas they travel through, and also being stolen for their ivory, skin, and flesh. Villagers use these traps to catch deer or wild pigs, but elephants are also caught in them and frequently perish from untreated wounds. These tragic facts are added to by the reality that many elephants are still abused and live miserable lives in captivity because of Asia’s unregulated tourism industry.

Family is crucial to how a herd behaves, and when one of these gentle giants is harmed by a human, their social order is disrupted, making them especially more susceptible.

The International Elephant Project (IEP)

The International Elephant Project (IEP) is a not-for-profit initiative for the protection of the rainforest, elephant conservation, and relationships with local communities. The IEP was established to maintain the elephants’ complete ecosystem in a holistic manner, which has a positive knock-on effect on many other species battling for their life. This is done in order to safeguard and save the entire ecology and biodiversity of areas shared by elephants.

The goal of the IEP is to carry out true, quantifiable, and efficient elephant conservation in order to guarantee the survival of all elephant species in their natural environment. Their goal is straightforward: to ensure that all elephants exist in stable groups in the wild. However, is it really that easy?

How our contributions help:

In order to keep track of and safeguard elephants in the Nam Pouy National Protected Area in Laos and the Bukit Tigapuluh Ecosystem in Sumatra, the IEP runs an elephant adoption programme. With this fantastic programme, you can see firsthand how your donations save elephants.
The IEP has been supporting the Elephant Conservation Centre in Laos which includes the only elephant hospital in the area. Additionally, a significant amount of land that supports natural breeding and socialisation is sourced and protected through this project. The 190,000-hectare environment that is home to both wild and rewilded Laos elephants is protected by ranger teams that are funded by donations.
The Wildlife Ambulance teams are in danger of reducing their efforts or, worse yet, going extinct because of rising levels of poaching and deforestation as well as a decline in donations to their fundraising efforts. Their teams on the ground are made up of veterinarians who not only give injured and displaced elephants in Sumatra life-saving aid, but who also relentlessly labour to educate the following generation of veterinarians. By the end of the year, they will be in need of $50,000 to continue their essential job.

The task ahead is difficult and lengthy if we are to guarantee the survival of these magnificent elephants. Nothing would make Rewards4Earth happier than to support the IEP and offer critical money.

What is Zero Positive for Schools?

Zero Positive is a non-profit, proprietary emissions reduction program. As endorsed by the United Nations, this program provides schools and their communities with the resources, guidance, and support they need to begin their journey to reach net zero emissions goals while being environmentally friendly. It is a global initiative to help schools reduce their carbon footprint. This initiative aims to have a positive impact on the environment and people as well ass promote sustainability by introducing students and teachers to environmental issues and solutions.

This program was designed to make schools greener and we are proud to support it!

This initiative will raise awareness of environmental issues in schools and help the planet. The focus is on making children more aware of what they can do to help. As an organization that believes in the importance of learning about and making an impact on the world around us, this initiative is very important to us. is designed to help students learn how to contribute to the greening of their school. Real energy data will be used in the Zero Positive initiative to train and empower students and educators. Students can use gauges and data collection platforms to monitor their progress in reducing emissions and increasing sustainability.

Hope for Australian Species!

Since its inception in 1989, the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital has served thousands and in the past 20 years alone, they have helped over 150,000 animals in need of medical attention, making it one of the busiest animal hospitals in the world.

Set on 27 hectares of lush rainforest and natural eucalyptus-rich bushland in Queensland, the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital is an integral part of The Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. The area is now a heritage-listed zoological garden and home to native mammals, reptiles, birdlife, amphibians and some exotic species.

The Challenges

Over the years, Mother Nature has unleashed increasingly regular and severe weather events, including flooding, droughts and bushfires, endangering the survival of some of our rich fauna that makes up our unique, vibrant ecosystems. As wildlife bears the brunt of such events and endures these challenging circumstances, there is often little reprieve for some.

Since the Sanctuary and Hospital opened, they have been able to survive and thrive thanks to widespread enthusiastic local support and the growth of ecotourism. However, funding is needed now more than ever due to the increased number of inpatients and the higher costs of running the facilities. The extensive and costly expenses required to treat such a diverse range of wildlife include the provision of medicine, medical equipment, grounds maintenance, administration staff, food and hospital operating costs, as well as the manpower and resources required to release them back into the wild. In recent years, the average number of animals hospitalised has increased to 14,000 per year, costing on average $120 each, while the typical cost of a koala patient is over $7,000.

The Plight of the Koala

Among the vulnerable animals at Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, the plight of the Koala, Australia’s iconic furry face, is sadly a crisis that requires immediate attention. Within a decade, koala numbers have plummeted at an alarming rate from no listing to vulnerable to endangered in February 2022, with some states reporting a 30% decrease. Unfortunately, the 2020/2021 bushfires affected more than 60,000 of an already vulnerable population. Other factors, such as dog attacks, car accidents and habitat destruction for urban and agricultural development have contributed to their decline. Chlamydia, on the other hand, is the most dangerous threat affecting male, female and infant koala joeys, causing blindness and infertility.

"We should never have allowed things to get to the point where we risk losing a national icon. If we can't protect an iconic species endemic to Australia, what chance do lesser known but no less important species have?"

To help stop the Koala’s impending localised extinction, Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Senior Vet Dr Michael Pyne is at the forefront of the Koala Vaccine Research Programme. In the past year, there were almost 500 Koala admissions, 60% of which were due to chlamydia. Given that there were only 27 Koalas admitted in 2008, there is a pressing need for this initiative to be successful given that the numbers are still on the rise. With over 20 years of experience treating sick koalas, the current programme shows promising results, but immunising their population will take time. Sadly, it is a luxury that is no longer on their side.

It takes 1000 gum trees to feed ONE Koala

Koalas are picky eaters, each one has its preferred gum tree species keeping gum cutters and veterinary nurses busy collecting several types of gum leaves daily to feed the fussy, furry creatures. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary has four Koala fodder plantations that contain around 38,000 trees. They set up the Tree To Me Programme to meet the demand, allowing the general public to purchase trees.

Destiny Rescue

Destiny Rescue began in 2001 by Tony Kirwan. Living in Thailand at the time, he overheard a conversation that a man was invited to have sex with a child. It was at that moment that he knew he had to do something “I believe that God put the vision of Destiny Rescue in my heart.” Destiny Rescue is now a worldwide organisation that rescues children from sex trafficking, rehabilitates them and gets them educated with the skills to be able to work in a healthy environment and give them a life of freedom. Destiny rescue in Australia is registered with the ACNC and consistently works to raise the funds to help experts internationally and get these children to safety. They also hold speaking events at churches and wherever they’re invited to raise awareness of their vision.

There are many around the world who contribute to this incredible cause in many countries. Frontline rescue agents, border agents and social workers help in 7 different countries. These amazing people have helped to rescue and reintegrate over 9000 people within the last 11 years and share a passion for Jesus that has greatly blessed their work since the beginning.

Coolum Surf Lifesaving Club

Volunteer Surf Lifesaving Clubs are the heart and soul of most Australian beach communities.

As iconic as “G’day Mate” via the red and yellow flags, they patrol our magnificent beaches protecting us from the dangers the ocean presents.

With their unwavering contribution to society and our lives, they need our support as much as we need theirs.

Surf Lifesaving Clubs deliver over the summer season “annually”, a safe environment for all to enjoy. It’s where our children make and play with friends, whilst also learning respect for the water and gaining confidence swimming in the surf.

There’s also the serious side to their deliverables and that’s the business of saving lives, which they quietly go about without bravado or fanfare. Importantly, Surf clubs also provide employment for locals within their community, i.e., the smiling faces of those who deliver our food and beverage whilst we savour the views, the people, and the ocean smells. Think about it, these are traditions handed down through the generations which deliver memories and experiences that are as much a part of us, as life itself.

A brief History - Some Fun Facts

In 1902 it was against the law to swim during daylight hours in Australia. This law forbade ‘bathing in waters exposed to views from any wharf, street, public place or dwelling house between the hours of 6 am and 7 pm.’

It was challenged and over time overruled; however, more and more inexperienced swimmers needed assistance or drowned in the sea. Groups of volunteers would patrol the waters and consequently, the first group of Surf Lifesaving clubs formed around the beaches of Sydney.

Here in Queensland, Coolum Surf Lifesaving Club has had its fair share of challenges since it was established in 1919 with local sea tragedies, World War 2 casualties and dwindling memberships. However, with its spirit of optimism that it embodies and a rallying community, the club has overcome adversity and in 2020, was awarded the award for Queensland’s Best Surf Life-Saving Supporter Club. Like all lifesaving clubs, the Coolum club relies on its volunteers’ selfless efforts and the community’s support to maintain its financially viable, i.e., via members and visitors enjoying the facilities, spending on F&B, raffles and providing donations.

2020 – The facts:

258 patrolling members took 945 preventative actions
Performed 25 LIFESAVING rescues
Successfully achieved ZERO CASUALTIES.

During the 2020 year, the volunteers at Coolum have generously donated 12,350 hours of their time to keep the club afloat and the beach manned, resulting in 70,000 visitors safely enjoying the beautiful Coolum beach.

To give you an idea of where your generous donations go, the cost of setting up a single beach patrol costs approximately $80,000, which encompasses vital lifesaving rescue equipment such as rescue boats, boards, first aid kits etc.
